When Richard Tuck founded turtlehomes.co.uk in 2008, little did he realise the impact online estate agents would have in revolutionising Estate Agency as we know it!
Up until then it was common place for vendors to pay on average £4000 in Estate Agents fees. With over 15 years' experience in marketing property, it became apparent to Richard that the nature of property enquiries was changing. The traditional role of the Estate Agent was becoming more and more obsolete in the digital era.
When Richard first started selling houses, the internet didn't exist and the only method of advertising property was by using shop windows, for sale boards and newspaper adverts. Anyone looking to buy a property was reliant on contacting every Estate Agent in town individually, to find our whether they had any suitable properties. Back in those days the Agent would need to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of each of their listings, which they could recite to every caller to the office.
When Rightmove launched their online property portal in 2000, the nature of estate agency changed for good. Overnight consumers could browse through property listings from every estate agent in the land from the comfort of their home. Such was the impact of the internet, the characteristics of property enquiries to estate agents changed. Nowadays, instead of providing the estate agent with property criteria, the potential purchaser already knows which properties they want to view. They had already spent time researching suitable property on the internet, and created a shortlist of the ones that they would like to view. Thus doing the estate agents leg work for them!
It became apparent that the role of a high street estate agents office was becoming less important. Much in the manner of travel agents and banks. Why visit umpteen estate agents when you can find all the information that you need online?

After gaining a B.Sc(hons) in Construction Management at Salford University, Richard joined the family Estate Agency firm in 1998. Initially helping to launch Michael Tuck Lettings, his natural flair for the new build environment led him to set up Michael Tuck New Homes. In 2007 with the onset of the credit crunch, Richard saw an opportunity to became one of the early pioneers of Online Estate Agency.
Turtlehomes.co.uk were launched as online estate agents by Richard Tuck B.Sc (hons) in 2008. With all of his previous success as a director of one of Gloucestershire's, Worcestershire's and Wiltshire's largest estate agents, he decided to apply his 20 years knowledge and experience into creating a new and refreshing alternative to Estate Agency. Richard came up with the idea of setting up Turtlehomes.co.uk online estate agents by creating a formula that offers traditional estate agency methods with minimum overheads in order to pass substantial fee savings to the seller.
Out of business hours, Richard has a passion for adventure and can be often found cycling or running the country lanes of Gloucestershire and beyond. Having successfully previously completing the Three Peaks Challenge and London Nightrider (+cycling back to Gloucester afterwards) he also raised money for the British Heart Foundation by undertaking a 750 mile bike ride to the Scottish Highlands during 2015.
Laura joined the company as Sales Manager in autumn 2014. For the previous five years Laura has worked in a high street estate agency environment and had noticed a change in the way that her customers were searching for property. She was looking for a slight change in career and a new challenge and could see the growing potential of online marketing.
Following a chance meeting with Richard, it soon became clear that Laura shared the same business philosophy, and quickly decided the head the Turtlehomes.co.uk sales team.
Out of work Laura enjoys running and has recently taken up cheerleading as a great way of keeping fit. She also spends a lot of time in the kitchen baking cakes and keeps the team motivated by bringing them into work.
20 years experience as an Estate Agent. Emma brings a wealth of experience to our team having worked for a high street estate agent throughout the 90'and 2000's. Having become disillusioned with High Street estate agency she realised that the future of house sales is online. Emma joined turtlehomes.co.uk online estate agents in 2011 and is a firm favourite with our customers.
In her spare time Emma enjoys walking her Cocker Spaniels.
Gareth started with the company as a trainee in 2014 and having completed his NVQ Level 2 in Estate Agency has recently been promoted to a Sales Negotiator. This is his first role in what he hopes to be a long career in Estate Agency. He already shows great enthusiasm and drive to help the business move forward. Gareths main duties include dealing with all enquiries, arranging viewings, providing feedback and negotiating offers n behalf of our vendors.
Outside of work Gareth spends the majority of his time on the football pitch or in the gym, currently playing semi-professionally for Tuffley Rovers.
